Circocosmia jinningensis
Vendor: Lagerstätte Land
SKU Number: SQ5641808
Circocosmia jinningensis from Chengjiang Biota. Early Cambrian, Qiongzhusi Section, Yu’anshan Member, Heilinpu Formation, Mafang Village, Anning, Yunnan Province, China.
Cricocosmia jinningensis lived buried in the seafloor sediment as animals like Amplectobelua swam above it. It captured prey by turning out the long snout-like pharynx at the front of the animal, and could crawl short distances over the seafloor in search of food.
This is an exceptional, publication worthy piece.

Additional Information
Description:
Circocosmia is a genus of palaeoscolecid worm from the Early Cambrian Chengjiang biota
Palaeoscolecids are a widespread Palaeozoic group of armoured subcylindrical worms whose phylogenetic position has attracted much debate. Their regionalized pharyngeal armature and posterior hooks recall those of priapulans. The palaeoscolecids are a group of extinct ecdysozoan worms resembling armoured priapulids. They are known from the Lower Cambrian to the late Silurian; they are mainly found as disarticulated sclerites, but are also preserved in many of the Cambrian lagerstätten. They take their name from the typifying genus Palaeoscolex. Other genera include Cricocosmia from the Lower Cambrian Chengjiang biota.
