This specimen has excellent preservation of soft tissue, which is clearly visible as a dark red against the ochre of the matrix.
Heliomedusa was an ovate brachiopod. They are usually found as red-stained composite molds and casts with soft tissue preservation of internal features. It is considered to be discinid, a group of Linguliformea, though it has also been considered a possible stem brachiopod.

Heliomedusa orienta is a small Early Cambrian brachiopod from the Chengiang biota.
Heliomedusa orienta was first interpreted as a jellyfish - hence its name - but is now affiliated with Mickwitzia, as well as Craniopsids and Disciniids.
