Annamitella liexiensis
Vendor: Lagerstätte Land
SKU Number: SQ6445802
Annamitella liexiensis trilobite from the Lower Ordovician, Madaoyu Formation, Yongshun County, Western Hunan, South China.
The stress exerted on rocks by the forces of nature are clearly visible on this example of A. liexiensis. A lateral movement of the rock has completely split the trilobite in two. The rock has been stretched to the point of breaking deforming the trilobite. Features like this are important in determining when events took place. In this case it is clear that the break in the rock occurred after the rock was deposited, otherwise the trilobite would not be split in two.
The split in the rock has been infilled with minerals that percolated into the gap along the split.
A nice example of the forces of nature.

Additional Information
Description:
Annamitella liexiensis is a trilobite species discovered in the Cambrian strata of Western Hunan, South China. Trilobites, an extinct group of marine arthropods, are common fossils from this period, and Annamitella liexiensis contributes to our understanding of the diversity of trilobites during the Cambrian explosion. Fossils of Annamitella liexiensis, like other trilobites, provide valuable information about early marine ecosystems, biogeography, and evolutionary patterns. The specific morphological characteristics and stratigraphic context of Annamitella liexiensis help paleontologists to reconstruct the ancient environments and the relationships between different trilobite species.
